EIMA International has unveiled 12 finalists for the Tractor of the Year 2027 Utility and Specialized categories, bringing together established European tractor manufacturers, Indian brands and several machines whose technical specifications remain undisclosed ahead of the November awards ceremony.
The newly announced lineup includes the Fendt 314 Vario Gen 5, Landini 6-145 RS, Massey Ferguson 5S.145 Dyna-VT, CLAAS Nexos 2.120 CMATIC and other tractors designed for applications ranging from general farm operations to vineyards, orchards and mountainous terrain.
Six machines are competing in each category. The winners will be announced on November 10, 2026, during EIMA International in Bologna, Italy, where visitors will also have an opportunity to see the finalists at the Tractor of the Year Show.
The selection highlights two distinct areas of tractor development. Utility tractors must accommodate an increasingly diverse range of farm operations, while specialized machines face demanding requirements for maneuverability, traction, operator comfort and efficient operation in restricted spaces.
Several manufacturers are also using the competition to introduce or preview new tractor models, making the 2027 awards particularly interesting from a product development perspective.
Tractor of the Year 2027 Utility Finalists
The Utility category covers tractors in the 70 to 150 horsepower range, encompassing machines used for livestock farming, loader operations, hay production, fieldwork and general agricultural applications.
The six finalists announced by EIMA are:
Fendt 314 Vario Gen 5
The latest generation of Fendt’s 300 Vario series enters the competition with the manufacturer’s established continuously variable transmission concept. The 314 represents the upper end of a tractor family designed to combine field performance with versatility in everyday agricultural operations.
Landini 6-145 RS
Landini’s candidate represents the higher-powered segment of the utility tractor market. Its configuration is relevant to farms requiring a machine capable of handling transport, implement operation and demanding general-purpose agricultural work.
CLAAS ARION 4
CLAAS has entered the ARION 4, although its detailed specifications have not yet been disclosed in the finalist announcement. The model is one of the most interesting entries from a product launch perspective, as its complete technical configuration remains to be revealed.
Massey Ferguson 5S.145 Dyna-VT
Massey Ferguson’s entry brings a continuously variable transmission to its compact utility tractor segment. The Dyna-VT designation is particularly relevant because transmission behavior, speed management and power delivery play important roles in mixed agricultural operations.
TÜMOSAN 81.110 EVO
The Turkish manufacturer’s candidate adds a different market perspective to the competition. Its presence places a general-purpose agricultural tractor alongside machines from manufacturers with established international product portfolios.
Solis (ITL) 95 Cab
Indian manufacturer International Tractors Limited enters the Utility category with the Solis 95 Cab, a cab-equipped tractor targeting the midrange horsepower segment. Its inclusion adds another manufacturer competing for recognition in the European agricultural machinery market.
Utility Tractors: Transmission Technology Takes Center Stage
One of the most notable aspects of the Utility shortlist is the inclusion of continuously variable transmission technology in relatively compact tractors.
The Fendt 314 Vario Gen 5 and Massey Ferguson 5S.145 Dyna-VT represent a development direction in which transmission control and operator convenience are becoming important considerations beyond the traditional high-horsepower tractor segment.
For farmers, the practical value of a continuously variable transmission is not limited to smooth acceleration. The ability to adjust ground speed independently of engine speed can help operators match tractor movement to implement requirements, particularly during loader work, mowing, baling and transport.
However, a transmission alone does not determine overall tractor performance. Hydraulic capacity, rear linkage geometry, visibility, maneuverability, implement compatibility and operating costs remain equally important when evaluating these machines for actual farm use.
The presence of the CLAAS ARION 4 adds another dimension to the competition. Until its full specifications are disclosed, it is difficult to determine how the new model will compare technically with the other finalists.
The upcoming product presentations will therefore be important for understanding whether manufacturers are introducing substantial changes to tractor architecture or primarily refining existing platforms.
Tractor of the Year 2027 Specialized Finalists
The Specialized category covers tractors developed for vineyards, orchards, mountainous regions and other agricultural environments where conventional tractors may be limited by their dimensions, maneuverability or suitability for steep terrain.
The six finalists are:
Aebi TT 212
The Swiss manufacturer’s TT 212 represents a different approach to specialized mechanization, with an articulated machine designed for operations on demanding terrain. Its inclusion broadens the category beyond conventional narrow-track vineyard and orchard tractors.
Antonio Carraro TGF 7600 Infinity
Antonio Carraro’s TGF 7600 Infinity is another finalist whose detailed specifications remain undisclosed in the EIMA announcement. The manufacturer is known for compact specialized tractors developed for vineyards, orchards and challenging agricultural environments.
BCS Volcan 85
The BCS Volcan 85 brings an articulated tractor configuration to the competition. This type of architecture is particularly relevant for specialized agricultural operations requiring maneuverability and traction in confined or irregular working environments.
CLAAS Nexos 2.120 CMATIC
CLAAS enters the Specialized category with the Nexos 2.120 CMATIC, bringing continuously variable transmission technology to its narrow-track tractor lineup. The model is designed for agricultural operations where compact dimensions and precise speed control are essential.
Solis (ITL) N95 Cab
The Solis N95 Cab is the Indian manufacturer’s entry in the Specialized category. Its full technical details have not yet been revealed in the finalist announcement, leaving questions about its drivetrain, dimensions and equipment configuration.
TAFE 6065
TAFE completes the Specialized shortlist with the 6065, adding another Indian manufacturer to the competition. Its nomination illustrates the international scope of a category historically associated with European manufacturers specializing in vineyard, orchard and mountain equipment.
Specialized Tractors: Three Different Engineering Approaches
The Specialized finalists demonstrate why comparing tractors solely on horsepower can be misleading.
The Aebi TT 212, BCS Volcan 85 and CLAAS Nexos 2.120 CMATIC illustrate three different engineering approaches to agricultural mechanization in demanding environments.
The Aebi represents terrain-oriented machinery, where traction, vehicle geometry and stability are central design considerations.
The BCS Volcan 85 uses an articulated configuration, which can provide maneuverability advantages in certain restricted working environments.
The CLAAS Nexos 2.120 CMATIC follows a more conventional narrow-track tractor architecture, with continuously variable transmission technology intended to provide flexible speed management during specialized field operations.
These machines address different working conditions. A tractor designed for steep mountain grassland cannot be evaluated using exactly the same operational requirements as a narrow orchard tractor working between closely spaced tree rows.
This distinction makes the Specialized category technically interesting. The jury must consider how effectively each machine addresses its intended applications rather than simply comparing engine output or equipment levels.
What the 2027 Finalists Reveal About Tractor Development
The 2027 Utility and Specialized shortlists point to several developments in the agricultural machinery market.
First, transmission technology continues to expand into compact and specialized tractors. Farmers working with relatively small machines increasingly have access to drivetrain configurations previously associated mainly with larger agricultural equipment.
Second, manufacturers are addressing specialized applications through substantially different vehicle architectures. Articulated tractors, narrow-track machines and terrain-oriented equipment remain distinct solutions because the physical requirements of their operating environments are different.
Third, the participation of TÜMOSAN, Solis and TAFE alongside established European manufacturers reflects the international nature of the tractor market.
The presence of these brands in the competition provides an opportunity to examine how different manufacturers address comparable agricultural requirements through their respective engineering and product development strategies.
There is also an important unanswered question surrounding the new CLAAS ARION 4, Antonio Carraro TGF 7600 Infinity and Solis N95 Cab.
With their detailed specifications still undisclosed in the finalist announcement, their technical positioning cannot yet be established through a complete comparison of engine performance, transmission design, hydraulic systems or other operational characteristics.
The final product presentations should provide a clearer picture of the engineering changes being introduced for the 2027 model year.
