Voltrac Secures €7 Million to Accelerate Production of Its Autonomous Electric Tractor Thor

Valencia based robotics startup Voltrac has taken a major step forward in its push toward autonomous farming. The company has closed a €7 million seed round led by Extantia, with participation from FoodLabs, Antler, PUSH, and Prototype Capital. The funding will enable Voltrac to ramp up production of its autonomous electric tractor, Thor, to 100 units annually beginning in 2026.

Autonomous electric platform designed to address labor shortages in agriculture

Voltrac was founded in 2024 by Thomas Hubregtsen and Francisco Infante Aguirre with a mission to reduce the impact of labor shortages on global food production. Thor, their unmanned ground vehicle, is built specifically for high precision fieldwork and frontline logistics. Unlike retrofitted autonomous concepts from traditional OEMs, Thor is a ground up electric platform with a radically simplified architecture.

According to Voltrac, the machine uses around 70 percent fewer mechanical components than standard tractors. Its distributed electric drivetrain powers all four wheels individually, creating a flexible, low maintenance platform with high torque delivery for draft tasks such as ploughing and deep tillage. Battery packs are fully swappable in the field, a design that cuts downtime and is projected to reduce total maintenance costs by almost 30 percent per year.

Key engineering advantages of the Thor electric UGV

Thor’s most significant leap lies in its autonomy and operational efficiency. The platform supports both tele operation and autonomous workflows, allowing a single operator to oversee several robots simultaneously. It is compatible with standard farm implements including seed drills, sprayers, and cultivators, enabling farms to automate tasks without purchasing specialized attachments.

Voltrac also claims Thor offers triple the battery capacity seen on comparable electric or hybrid UGVs. Although the company has not publicly disclosed exact kWh ratings, early prototypes shown in testing demonstrate long duty cycles and enough sustained traction for continuous field operations. Its chassis is engineered to handle high drawbar loads, and early field demonstrations suggest strong performance in mixed terrain conditions.

Expanding into logistics and next generation autonomy

Beyond agriculture, Thor is being adapted for rugged logistics roles. The platform can haul up to four tonnes across challenging terrain, positioning it as a viable machine for forestry, industrial yards, and defense support operations.

Investors emphasize that Voltrac’s competitive edge is not just autonomy, but cost discipline. “Voltrac has solved a fundamental hardware challenge,” said Extantia Partner Yair Reem. “They are already at price parity with diesel machinery and trending below it.”

The company’s roadmap includes advancing its autonomy stack, improving perception systems, and integrating reinforcement learning to optimize crop treatment parameters such as spray volumes and implement position in real time. These upgrades aim to boost yields while lowering operating costs for medium and large scale farms.
