Amarillo farmers and landowners will have multiple opportunities in early 2026 to complete required pesticide applicator training through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office for Potter County has announced four upcoming private pesticide applicator training classes in Amarillo. Sessions will be held on January 14, March 18, May 20, and June 10, providing flexibility for producers planning around seasonal fieldwork.

Each class costs $60, which includes all training materials. Participants must RSVP at least one week in advance by calling 806-373-0713. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m., with training running for approximately three and a half hours. All sessions take place at the Potter County AgriLife Extension Office, 3301 SE 10th Ave., Amarillo.

Private Pesticide Applicator Training Requirements for Texas Producers

This training is designed for producers and landowners who apply restricted use pesticides to land they own or manage. Completion of the course is a required step before taking the Private Pesticide Applicator License exam, which is administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

The class covers critical topics such as:

  • Safe handling and application of restricted use pesticides.
  • Environmental protection and drift management.
  • Personal safety and legal compliance.
  • Proper equipment operation and calibration.

Why This Training Matters for Farmers and Ranchers

For modern agricultural operations, pesticide compliance is not just a regulatory requirement. Proper training helps reduce chemical misuse, protects crops and livestock, and minimizes environmental and worker safety risks. Producers who complete this course are better equipped to make informed decisions that protect yields while staying compliant with state regulations.
