In a decisive push toward sustainable mechanisation, Sonalika has introduced its first tractor powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and compressed biogas (CBG) at the Agro Vision India 2025 exhibition in Nagpur. The timing is strategic: rising diesel prices and growing pressure for greener practices make alternative-fuel machinery increasingly relevant for Indian agriculture.
Eco Driven Farming Innovation
Switching to CNG and CBG enables significant emission reduction compared with diesel engines. For farms aiming to lower their carbon footprint, the new tractor offers a practical and future-ready solution. The platform is also engineered for higher mileage and reduced operating costs, delivering economic benefits during fieldwork and transport operations.
Farmer Centric Design in a 50 HP Package
The tractor is built around a 50 HP category engine and includes:
- CNG / CBG fuel system (approx. 95% methane).
- 2000 rpm rated speed.
- Dual tank setup totaling around 40 kg (14 kg + 27 kg).
- 2WD drivetrain.
- 12F + 3R constant mesh transmission with side shift.
- PTO at 540 rpm.
- Tyres 16.9×28 and 7.5×16.
- Technology developed in partnership with M/s Shigan Quantum Technologies.
The configuration shows that Sonalika aims to deliver not just an experimental concept, but a usable working tractor suitable for tillage, haulage and mixed operations.
