Silloth Truck and Tractor Run

Silloth Truck and Tractor Run Raises Over £7,000 for Cancer Research UK

The second annual Silloth Truck and Tractor Run has confirmed its place on the UK rural events calendar, raising more than £7,000 for Cancer Research UK after a strong turnout of agricultural and commercial vehicles.

Held on Saturday, December 20, the 2025 edition saw 65 trucks and tractors form a festive convoy departing from Silloth and passing through multiple west Cumbrian towns and villages before finishing in Carlisle.

Tractor and truck convoy draws strong turnout across west Cumbria

The run concluded at Thompson Accident Repair Centre in Carlisle, where drivers, families, and supporters gathered for a charity auction that became the financial backbone of the event. The auction alone generated more than £4,500, highlighting the buying power and generosity of the farming and transport community.

Among the most notable auction results were a pedigree Limousin heifer calf that sold for £1,000 and a helicopter flight for two departing from Kirkbride Airfield.

Charity auction and entry fees boost total funds raised

Beyond the auction, vehicle entry fees contributed approximately £1,300 to the total, with additional funds coming from individual donors and local businesses. For a second-year event, the overall fundraising result reflects both growing awareness and strong grassroots support.

Event organizer credits drivers, farmers, and local businesses

The event was organized single-handedly by Ian Ward, who launched the Silloth Truck and Tractor Run in 2024. Speaking after the convoy, Ward said he was overwhelmed by the response from drivers, sponsors, and the wider rural community.

He also acknowledged key contributors, including Geoff, Angela, and Michael Thompson for providing the event yard, as well as auctioneer Oliver Watson of Harrison and Hetherington, who donated his services at no charge.
