Landini continues to lead the electrification of specialized tractors. Following the success of the Rex4 Full Hybrid prototype unveiled at EIMA 2022, the brand has now received the Agricultural Operations award at Agrilevante 2025 for the new Rex4 Energy, confirming Argo Tractors’ long-term commitment to sustainable and high-efficiency solutions for Mediterranean farming.
From Full Hybrid to Energy — Evolution of Electrified Tractors
The Rex4 Full Hybrid, which won the EIMA International Technical Innovation award in 2022, marked a breakthrough in mechatronic design.
Its development focused on optimizing mechanical systems, recovering energy, and managing power flows among various electrical devices — pioneering a new standard for hybrid tractors.
- Total system output: up to 80 kW.
- Internal combustion engine: 55 kW diesel engine.
- Electric Booster motor: permanent-magnet unit delivering up to 50 kW.
- Combined hybrid operation: 55 kW from the diesel engine + 25 kW electric power.
- Full-electric mode: nominal 50 kW, with peak power up to 65 kW and up to 2 hours autonomy using a high-capacity traction battery.
A Power Management System (PMS) continuously optimized the operation of both propulsion systems, recovering energy during deceleration and using the electric motor as a generator when needed. This configuration resulted in notable fuel savings and reduced emissions — a significant advance in the company’s long-term electrification roadmap.
Rex4 Energy. Practical Electrification for Implements
Building on the experience gained from the Full Hybrid, the Rex4 Energy transitions from concept to practicality. Instead of propulsion batteries, it integrates a 48 V, 10 kW electric generator that supplies direct power to implements such as sprayers, pruning machines, or pumps.
This new setup maintains the same Power Management System, ensuring efficient generator output at low engine speeds, and allowing energy delivery independent of engine RPM.
The main specs are:
- Engine. Deutz 2.9 L, 4-cylinder, Stage V diesel (around 75 hp).
- Transmission. Speed Four 12×12 with options for Power Four or RoboShift automation.
- Hydraulics. Dual-pump system (58 + 30 L/min) with optional third pump for heavier workloads.
- Cab. Lounge Cab design with 360° visibility, ergonomic controls, and optional suspended front axle.
- Fuel compatibility. Can operate with HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) for lower CO₂ output.
In field use, the Rex4 Energy offers quieter performance, reduced vibration, and greater flexibility—ideal for intensive vineyard and orchard operations where precision and sustainability matter.
