One of the most important private vintage tractor collections assembled in recent decades is set to be dispersed at auction later this month. After more than 55 years of collecting, renowned enthusiast Ronnie Deering is releasing his lifetime collection through a timed online auction hosted by Wilsons Auctions.
The sale will run from January 28 to January 30, 2026, and will include tractors built between 1918 and 1969, representing early petrol, TVO, and diesel eras. The collection brings together machines sourced from across the UK, continental Europe, and Australia, many of them preserved in unusually original condition.
Top Vintage Tractor Lots at the Auction
The catalogue focuses on historically important working tractors rather than restored showpieces.
- 1969 John Deere 4020 Diesel. One of the most influential tractors of the 20th century. The 4020 helped define modern row crop tractor design with high horsepower, hydraulic performance, and operator comfort that set industry standards.
- 1922 Case 12/20 Crossmotor Petrol and TVO. A rare early tractor using Case’s cross-mounted engine layout. This machine famously participated in the 2007 Cooley Vintage Festival, helping set a Guinness World Record with 4,572 veteran tractors ploughing simultaneously.
- 1938 Case Model L Petrol and TVO. Known for its compact size and mechanical simplicity, the Model L was a popular general purpose tractor during the late pre-war period.
- 1949 Chamberlain 40K. An Australian built tractor designed for harsh conditions and large acreages. Chamberlain machines are highly sought after due to limited production and regional significance.
- 1949 Hanomag R45 with Pitch Pine Cab. A heavy German built tractor, well regarded for durability. The original pitch pine cab adds strong historical and visual value.
While additional machines will appear in the full catalogue, only confirmed examples are listed here.
A Lifetime of Collecting Across Continents
Ronnie Deering began collecting tractors more than five decades ago, travelling extensively to find original and mechanically interesting examples. Many of the machines were sourced from Australia, where agricultural equipment often survived longer in working condition due to climate and usage patterns.
Deering describes the collection as deeply personal, built not only through buying and restoring, but through family experiences, road runs, and meetings with other enthusiasts who shared the same passion for early farm machinery.
