New Delhi, Sept. 10, 2025 – CNH Industrial, the Italian-American agricultural and construction equipment manufacturer, announced plans to build a second New Holland tractor plant in India as part of its strategy to expand market share and strengthen the country’s role as a global production hub.
CEO Gerrit Marx said the new facility will be larger than the company’s existing Greater Noida plant and is central to CNH’s goal of doubling its tractor market share in India within the next five years. “We are looking at a site with more land that will allow us to build a bigger facility,” he noted.
The Greater Noida plant, situated on 60 acres in Uttar Pradesh, has an annual capacity of up to 70,000 tractors. In 2024, it produced about 51,000 units, with 37,000 sold in India and 14,000 exported to markets including the U.S. and Europe.
Although New Holland currently holds a relatively small share of India’s 900,000-unit tractor market, Marx said the company aims to reach double digits by 2030. CNH is already the market leader in sugarcane harvesters and small square balers, each with a 60 percent share.
On Tuesday, CNH also unveiled its first compact four-wheel drive tractors built in India. Ranging from 35 to 55 horsepower, the machines are targeted for export to Europe and North America.
India is now being positioned as both a domestic supply base and a global export hub, according to Marx. “India was earlier treated as part of Asia-Pacific and not given sufficient priority. Now, we are leveraging its supplier network, cost advantages, and skilled workforce to deliver competitive products for global markets.”
CNH’s India operations currently generate about $1 billion in annual revenue, with 65 percent from agriculture, 32 percent from construction equipment, and 3 percent from financial services. The company also operates a combine harvester unit in Pune, a backhoe loader plant in Pithampur, and a product development center in Gurugram.
