New Holland donates $300 K T6 180 tractor to Pittsburg State automotive program

Pittsburg, Kan. — In a major boost to its automotive technology program, Pittsburg State University has received a state-of-the-art New Holland T6 180 tractor valued at $300,000. The donation, provided by New Holland Agriculture, will allow students to gain real-world experience servicing both traditional and next-generation agricultural machinery.

The new addition to the program will expose students to modern diagnostic systems and sustainability-focused technologies. The T6 180 is capable of operating on methane fuel produced from recycled agricultural waste — a system that demonstrates how clean energy can be integrated into heavy-duty farm equipment.

Kelly Burgess, a New Holland representative and Pittsburg State alumna, emphasized the importance of hands-on learning. “Being hands-on makes all the difference in the world. We can do things virtually, we can do things through PowerPoint, but to actually lay hands on a physical product and perform diagnostics and service work truly prepares students for the field,” she said.

Burgess also pointed out that there are currently more T6 180 tractors in operation than there are certified technicians to maintain them. This means Pittsburg State graduates will have valuable, in-demand skills when entering the workforce.

Key Features of the New Holland T6 180

The T6 180 sits at the top of New Holland’s T6 series, a line designed for versatility and productivity across mixed-farming operations. It is powered by a 6.7-liter, six-cylinder engine delivering up to 175 horsepower and approximately 125 horsepower at the PTO. Hydraulic flow rates can reach 30 to 33 gallons per minute, while the three-point hitch lift capacity exceeds 11,000 pounds.

In its methane-powered configuration, the T6 180 offers identical performance to its diesel counterpart while dramatically reducing greenhouse-gas emissions — a major step toward carbon-neutral agriculture.
