Killanne Vintage Club is preparing to bring vintage tractors, local families and the wider County Wexford community together for a two-day fundraising event in support of Oscar’s Kids Ireland.
The fundraiser is scheduled for August 22 and 23 and will include a vintage tractor run connected with a journey from Killanne, Co. Wexford, to Crumlin Children’s Hospital, along with community activities in Killanne. Proceeds will support Oscar’s Kids, a childhood cancer charity working with children and families facing some of the most serious cancer diagnoses.
Tractor Run for Oscar’s Kids
The event carries particular meaning for the Flynn family. Mick Flynn is involved in organizing the fundraiser in memory of his daughter, Laura, giving the weekend a personal connection that goes well beyond a conventional vintage machinery gathering.
Leonard Fitzgerald, chairman of Killanne Vintage Club, is also supporting the initiative together with members of the local vintage community.
The tractor run is expected to become the centerpiece of a wider weekend of activities. Killanne Vintage Club has promoted August 22 and 23 as the main fundraiser dates, while its Sunday program includes a Family Fun Day at Rackard’s of Killanne from 3 p.m.
Killanne to Crumlin Route
The fundraising campaign is being promoted as the “Killanne to Crumlin” fundraiser, with the club organizing a vintage tractor journey from Killanne to Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin in aid of Oscar’s Kids Ireland.
The tractors are then due to make their way back toward the Killanne area, with the club promoting an August 23 tractor run from Kiltealy to Killanne as part of the returning weekend activities.
For vintage machinery enthusiasts, that gives the event more substance than a short local parade. The tractors become part of a journey with a clear destination and purpose, connecting a rural machinery tradition with a national children’s charity.
Community Support Grows
Local backing is already emerging around the fundraiser. New Ross Credit Union, for example, has announced a €500 sponsorship contribution to the Killanne to Crumlin campaign.
That type of support matters because events built around vintage tractors often have an unusual ability to draw together people who might not normally attend a conventional charity fundraiser. Owners bring the machinery, families come to see it, local businesses contribute and the event itself becomes highly visible as the tractors travel through communities.
In this case, that visibility may ultimately be as important as the machinery itself.

They are being used as a way to turn a deeply personal story into a public community event. Oscar’s Kids is an international childhood cancer charity supporting children and families in Ireland and the United States. The organization was created in memory of Oscar Keogh, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in January 2018 and died 19 months later in July 2019.
