The Dutch tractor market remained highly competitive during the first half of 2026, with Fendt, New Holland, and John Deere emerging as the country’s three best selling tractor brands in the 50 hp and above category. Registration figures published by Dutch industry association Fedecom show that only a handful of machines separated the two market leaders, highlighting the intense competition among premium manufacturers.
H1 2026 registration rankings
Fendt secured first place with 281 newly registered tractors, finishing only three units ahead of New Holland, which recorded 278 registrations. John Deere completed the podium with 245 tractors, maintaining a strong presence in one of Europe’s most technologically advanced agricultural markets.
While the top three brands continued to dominate, several manufacturers also posted notable performances.
Claas recorded one of the strongest year over year gains, increasing registrations from 48 tractors during the first half of 2025 to 80 units in H1 2026. Deutz Fahr also improved its position with 150 registrations compared with 137 a year earlier. Massey Ferguson reached 97 registrations, while Kubota remained a smaller player in the higher horsepower segment with 16 tractors registered.
Premium technology continues to shape demand
The Dutch market has traditionally favored technologically advanced tractors designed for intensive mixed farming, dairy operations, vegetable production, and contracting businesses. Buyers increasingly prioritize precision farming capabilities, fuel efficiency, operator comfort, and advanced transmission technologies rather than focusing solely on engine output.
Fendt continues to benefit from its reputation for continuously variable transmissions, digital fleet management, and high productivity in demanding field applications. New Holland maintains a broad product portfolio covering everything from compact utility tractors to high horsepower agricultural machines, while John Deere remains one of the industry’s leaders in precision agriculture, integrated guidance systems, and connected machine management.
The close registration numbers suggest that purchasing decisions in the Netherlands are increasingly influenced by dealer support, precision farming ecosystems, financing options, and total operating costs rather than brand loyalty alone.
Dutch market remains strategically important
Although the Netherlands is relatively small in terms of agricultural land, it represents one of Europe’s most sophisticated machinery markets. Dutch farmers are typically early adopters of automation, GPS guidance, ISOBUS technologies, and data driven farm management systems, making the country an important benchmark for manufacturers introducing new technologies.
The narrow gap between the leading brands also reflects a healthy competitive environment where incremental technological improvements and customer support can directly influence market share.
