Doosan Robotics and Daedong Partner to Develop AI-Powered Agricultural Robots

Doosan Robotics and Daedong have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop advanced agricultural robots and on-device artificial intelligence (AI) technologies tailored for smart farming environments. The agreement, inked at Doosan Robotics’ Innovation Center in Seongnam, marks a strategic alliance between one of Korea’s leading robotics companies and its premier agricultural machinery manufacturer.

AI-driven solutions for real-world farm conditions

The partnership aims to create mobile manipulators — robots that combine an autonomous platform with robotic arms—designed to perform complex agricultural tasks in unstructured outdoor environments. Unlike conventional machines dependent on cloud connectivity, these robots will use on-device AI capable of processing and reacting in real time, enhancing efficiency and reliability in the field.

Doosan Robotics will lead the development of robotic arms, control systems, and AI algorithms. The company will also standardize key performance and interface elements for upcoming AI System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions. Meanwhile, Daedong will design and manufacture autonomous mobile platforms that leverage real-world agricultural data, as well as oversee field testing, safety certification, and international regulatory compliance.

A step toward autonomous smart farming

The two firms plan to collaborate on government-backed AI SoC development projects to advance machine perception and decision-making at the edge. Their ultimate goal is to commercialize mobile manipulators that can autonomously handle repetitive and labor-intensive farm operations—addressing labor shortages and enabling round-the-clock agricultural productivity.

According to Doosan Robotics CEO Kim Min-pyo, “This partnership will allow us to deliver robotic solutions suited for challenging agricultural sites. By merging Daedong’s expertise in agricultural equipment with our robotics technology, we aim to bring mobile manipulators to market soon and expand globally.”
