CLAAS has officially expanded its high horsepower tractor lineup with the launch of the completely redesigned AXION 8 CMATIC series, replacing the previous AXION 800 generation with three new models: the AXION 8.240 CMATIC, AXION 8.270 CMATIC, and AXION 8.290 CMATIC.
The new range makes its debut in Germany and introduces a significant step forward in both operator comfort and field performance. Rather than simply updating the outgoing tractors, CLAAS has redesigned the series with a new exterior, a completely new cab, higher output, and upgraded digital technology aimed at professional farmers and contractors operating demanding implements.
Up to 313 HP
Power continues to come from the proven 6.7 liter FPT NEF six cylinder engine, but the new generation delivers higher performance throughout the range.
The flagship AXION 8.290 CMATIC develops up to 290 hp rated output, while CLAAS’ POWER PERFORMANCE system temporarily increases maximum power to 313 hp under heavy PTO, transport, or hydraulic loads. This marks the first time the manufacturer has exceeded the 300 hp threshold in this tractor class using the AXION 8 platform.
The engine is paired with the continuously variable CMATIC transmission, designed to maintain optimum engine speed while improving fuel efficiency during transport and heavy draft work.
New Cab from AXION 9
Perhaps the biggest upgrade is the adoption of the larger cab previously reserved for the AXION 9 series.
The new workspace offers noticeably more interior volume, improved visibility, reduced noise levels, and a redesigned operator environment. The updated armrest integrates the latest CLAAS control philosophy with a multifunction joystick, configurable controls, and larger touchscreen displays for tractor and ISOBUS implement management.
Additional digital features include advanced guidance compatibility, precision farming applications, telematics integration, and support for automated field operations through the CLAAS CEMIS ecosystem.
Built for Heavy Draft Work
Although CLAAS has not radically changed the overall concept of the tractor, nearly every major area has been refined.
The AXION 8 CMATIC remains focused on heavy tillage, large seeders, high capacity balers, slurry application, and demanding transport operations where high continuous power and operator comfort are equally important.
The long wheelbase, robust chassis, continuously variable transmission, and optimized weight distribution should provide excellent traction while maintaining stable road handling at transport speeds.
Customers can also expect high hydraulic output, multiple electronic spool valves, front linkage and PTO options, suspended front axle, and factory ready precision agriculture packages, allowing the tractors to integrate easily into modern mixed fleets.
Modern Design
Visually, the new AXION 8 receives one of the most significant styling updates in the model’s history.
The front hood has been completely redesigned with slimmer LED lighting, a more aggressive grille, and cleaner body lines that align the tractor with the newest CLAAS design language first introduced on the latest AXION 9.
Inside, the improvements are even more noticeable, creating a more premium environment that moves the AXION 8 closer to the comfort level expected from larger flagship tractors.
Market Position
With outputs ranging from approximately 240 hp to over 300 hp under boost, the new AXION 8 CMATIC directly targets one of the fastest growing segments of the European tractor market.
CLAAS appears to be positioning the series as a bridge between traditional heavy field tractors and larger flagship machines, giving customers the performance needed for intensive field work while keeping overall dimensions and operating costs below those of the AXION 9.
The decision to combine the proven FPT engine platform with an all new operator environment is likely to appeal to existing CLAAS customers looking for greater comfort without sacrificing the reliability of a well established powertrain.
