Case IH Brings New Optum 440 Tractor to North America After Agritechnica Debut

Case IH has officially introduced its new high-horsepower Optum tractor lineup to the North American market, presenting the machines at Commodity Classic 2026 in San Antonio, Texas. The launch followed the global debut of the redesigned Optum generation at Agritechnica 2025 in Germany, where the flagship Optum 440 quickly became one of the most discussed tractors in the upper-medium power segment.

The updated Optum family expands Case IH’s offering in the 360–435 horsepower class, targeting farms that require a tractor capable of both heavy draft work and high-speed transport without stepping into the articulated tractor category.

The North American debut confirmed that the Optum 440 will serve as the technological flagship of the series, combining high horsepower with a relatively compact and lightweight chassis designed for versatility across multiple field operations.

Case IH Optum 440 Engine and Power Specs

At the center of the new platform is the FPT Industrial Cursor 9 engine, an 8.7-liter six-cylinder diesel that delivers up to 435 horsepower, placing the Optum 440 at the top of the series.

The engine is designed to balance high torque output with fuel efficiency during extended field operations such as deep tillage, large seeding equipment, or transport.

Key engine specifications include:

  • Engine: FPT Industrial Cursor 9.
  • Displacement: 8.7 liters.
  • Configuration: 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel.
  • Maximum power: up to 435 hp.
  • Emission standard: Stage V / Tier 4 Final equivalent systems.

Power is transferred through the CVXDrive continuously variable transmission, enabling seamless speed control from low-speed field work to road transport.

Maximum transport speed reaches 60 km/h (37 mph), allowing operators to reduce travel time between fields and logistics points.

Chassis Design, Suspension and Weight Specs

The Optum 440 was engineered to combine high horsepower with a relatively compact footprint.

Primary chassis characteristics include:

  • Operating weight: about 12,450 kg.
  • Maximum permissible weight: up to 18–19 tons depending on configuration.
  • Wheelbase: about 3,190 mm for improved stability under load.

A major engineering change is the introduction of a new independent front axle suspension. The system uses double wishbone architecture and hydraulic damping to improve ride quality and traction under heavy loads.

Case IH also integrated a factory-installed central tire inflation system, allowing operators to adjust tire pressure directly from the cab when switching between field and road conditions.

Lower tire pressure improves traction and reduces soil compaction during field work, while higher pressure increases efficiency during transport.

Hydraulic Capacity and Implement Performance

To support modern large implements such as seed drills and planters, the Optum platform offers a high-capacity hydraulic system.

Typical configurations include:

  • Standard hydraulic pump: 220 L/min.
  • Optional dual-pump system: up to 360 L/min total output.
  • Rear lift capacity: approximately 11,760 kg.

The dual-pump configuration allows independent flow allocation to different hydraulic circuits, helping operators maintain consistent performance when running multiple hydraulic functions simultaneously.

PTO options include multiple speed configurations, with both rear and optional front PTO units available for different implement types.

Integrated Precision Farming and Digital Connectivity

The Optum 440 integrates Case IH’s precision farming ecosystem directly into the tractor.

Technology features:

  • Case IH FieldOps digital platform.
  • ISOBUS compatibility.
  • Tractor Implement Management (TIM) automation.
  • Integrated telematics and machine connectivity.

These systems allow implements to automatically control certain tractor functions and enable remote monitoring of machine performance and field operations.

Case IH also emphasizes that connectivity features are included without recurring subscription fees in many markets, simplifying digital farm management.
