AGCO Power CORE80 Diesel of the Year 2026

AGCO Power CORE80 Named Diesel of the Year 2026 as Fendt 800 Vario Sets New Efficiency Benchmark

AGCO Power has earned major industry recognition after its new CORE80 engine was awarded the Diesel of the Year 2026 by Powertrain International magazine. The accolade highlights the engine’s strong torque characteristics, fuel efficiency profile, and power delivery optimized specifically for heavy off road duty cycles.

The CORE80 is the flagship engine of AGCO Power’s new CORE platform and is produced at the company’s engine plant in Linnavuori, Finland. According to Powertrain International editor in chief Fabio Butturi, the engine stood out for its power delivery tailored to off road work cycles, low fuel consumption, and class leading maximum torque output.

Unlike traditional high revving agricultural engines, the CORE80 is engineered to operate in a low rpm working window. Its main efficiency band sits between 1,100 and 1,400 rpm, where it delivers stable torque output with reduced internal friction and optimized combustion efficiency. This approach directly translates into lower fuel burn during draft, PTO, and transport operations.

Fendt 800 Vario with CORE80 Delivers 60 kmh Transport Speed at 1,450 RPM

The CORE80 engine powers the latest generation of the Fendt 800 Vario series, including the top specification Fendt 832 Vario.

In the 832 Vario configuration, maximum torque reaches 1,680 Nm from just 1,200 rpm. That torque curve is designed to stay flat and accessible across the primary load band, supporting heavy tillage, transport hauling, and PTO intensive applications with minimal rpm fluctuation.

One of the more impressive technical highlights is transport efficiency. The tractor achieves its maximum road speed of 60 kmh at only 1,450 rpm. For operators covering long transport distances between fields, this significantly reduces fuel consumption and engine wear compared to conventional higher rpm transport strategies.

The 800 Vario series remains positioned in the upper mid horsepower segment and is designed as a high versatility platform for row crop, mixed farming, and contractor operations. The Vario continuously variable transmission allows seamless power transfer while maintaining engine speed within the optimal torque band.

Low engine speed operation also improves acoustic comfort and reduces vibration levels in the cab, enhancing operator experience during long workdays.

CORE Engine Platform Strategy Signals AGCO Power Long Term Efficiency Focus

The CORE platform represents a broader shift within AGCO Power toward next generation combustion architecture. The focus is on high displacement, low rpm torque delivery rather than peak horsepower marketing figures.

Manufactured in Linnavuori, Finland, the facility is one of the most advanced agricultural engine plants in Europe. AGCO Power engines are widely used not only in Fendt tractors but also across several brands within the AGCO portfolio and selected OEM partners.

The Diesel of the Year recognition reinforces AGCO Power’s position as a vertically integrated engine supplier capable of designing purpose built agricultural power units rather than adapting on highway platforms.

About Fendt and AGCO

Fendt is one of the premium tractor manufacturers in Europe and operates as part of the global AGCO Corporation. The brand produces tractors ranging from approximately 200 to over 500 horsepower, along with combines, forage harvesters, and advanced precision farming systems.

AGCO Corporation, headquartered in the United States, reported annual revenues exceeding 14 billion USD in recent years and operates manufacturing and distribution facilities across Europe, North America, and South America. Its portfolio includes brands such as Fendt, Massey Ferguson, and Valtra.

With the CORE80 engine now officially recognized as Diesel of the Year 2026, the Fendt 800 Vario series strengthens its positioning as one of the most technically refined tractor platforms in the high horsepower segment.
